10% of every Women's Daily Dose SS purchase funds Project Hiu, an organization in Lombok, Indonesia that buys and converts shark fishing boats into ecotourism vessels, giving former shark fishermen a new income that doesn't depend on killing sharks.
Sharks are apex predators: they keep the species below them in the food chain in check, which keeps reef and open-ocean ecosystems stable. Shark fin demand remains one of the largest drivers of shark population decline worldwide. Project Hiu's model tackles the supply side directly, by making it more profitable for fishermen to carry tourists than to catch sharks.

Hiu, the Indonesian word for “shark,” offers a solution to save sharks with the very men originally tasked with hunting them. So though shark fishermen are the villains in most stories, these fishermen are heroes who used their second chance to save these beautiful animals.
